The minister of information, culture, and tourism, alhaji lai mohammed has insisted that the federal government’s ban on twitter’s operations was in the country’s interest.

Mohammed stated this when he appeared before the house committee on information in abuja, stating that various sections of the constitution support the action that was officially taken in the light of the security challenges facing the country.


He said the government had begun talks with the micro-blogging site to resolve the matter but noted that until then, the platform remained banned.

Reacting, lawmaker representing akwa ibom federal constituency and member of the committee, aniekan umanah said most nigerian youths use the platform to trade their goods in order to earn a living, hence the need for the government to reverse its decision.


However, another committee member, fatuhu mohammed stated that the minister did a good rendition of the legal framework that supported the steps taken while chinedu ogah on his part, stated that if the law regulating social media had been implemented, activities of the micro-blogging site would have been checked.

Mohammed stated this at the investigative hearing into the ban of twitter organized by the committees on information, justice, communications and national security and intelligence.

The minister who noted that twitter was not banned because they deleted president muhammadu buhari’s tweet, said it is not a must for nigerians to use the platform as there were several other online platforms.


Meanwhile, information has it that since announcement of the ban, nigerians have been using vpn to access twitter, a move which seems to contradict the attorney general, abubakar malami’s directive.


An islamic cleric, sheik ahmed gumi has urged president muhammadu buhari to invite the indigenous people of biafra, ipob and other agitators of seccession for negotiations over security in the country.

Gumi gave the charge while featuring on a television programme, saying unless appropriate measures are taken on time, the security situation in the country would get out of hand.

He insisted on his call for amnesty for armed herdsmen, but warned that allowing them to be radicalized religiously in terrorist fashion signaled a bad omen for nigeria.

He also charged the federal government not to only rely on military action but put in more effort to restor normalcy by engaging the bandits in negotiation through willing volunteers among them to win the battle.


Former nigeria president, goodluck jonathan has attributed nigeria’s current problems to its failure to properly manage its diversity in a way that gives minorities a sense of belonging.

Jonathan stated this in an address at the 13th joe-kyari gadzama virtual public lecture themed: redefining democracy: yearnings of the minority in a democratic setting.

The ex-president therefore urged nigerian to learn from the ethnic and religious diversity management from the south west, acknowleding the region as one which was able to manage religion and development very well.


Stakeholders in ondo city have expressed concern over the benefits derived from police community relation committee, pcrc in the country.

Pcrc chairman, ondo state chapter,  elder kayode fakolade described the purpose of pcrc while speaking on a magazine programme tagged ayekooto on this frequency, stating that the organisation is set up to assist police on issue of insecurity and have cordial relationship with the society


Elder fakolade lamented the challenges facing the organisation, therefore appealed to the government to play responsive role to the organisation


On his part, state secretary of pcrc, comrade dele akarigbo noted that an intergrity as well as a well known person is allowed to partake as member of the organisation.

The federal government has threatened to take legal action against airlines and other operators who fail to comply with the extant laws concerning persons living with disabilities in nigeria.

It condemned the situation where it becomes difficult for the category of persons to enjoy public facilities, especially the airports.

The national commission for persons with disabilities’ executive secretary, james lalu, made this known at an investigative hearing organised by the house of representatives’ committee on disabilities in abuja.

The commission said it is already in talks with the ministers of aviation, hadi sirika; works and housing, babatunde fashola; as well as the china civil engineering construction corporation engaged to construct new airport terminals across the country on the matter.
