The Odun Oba festival as the name connotes, is the festival of the king, the festival marks the beginning of a new year in Ondo kingdom.
This year’s festival in the kingdom offered another opportunity for those indigenous to the town, home and in the diaspora to come together, celebrate their king and rally for the development of the community.
The event held at the Ugha, palace of the Osemawe and paramount ruler of on Ondo kingdom, Oba dr. Victor Adewsimbo k\Kiladejo, Jilo III, CFR, the 44th king on the kingdom witnessed the display of the rich cultural heritage of the town.
Culture has been described as mirror of life which reaffirms co-existence among people.
Chief Lijofi of Ondo kingdom, Odunmoluwa Fadoju stated this while speaking with eki f.m’s reporter, during the celebration of the 2021 Odun Oba festival held at the Osemawe’s palace in Ondo kingdom.
Emphasising on the importance of culture, chief Lijofi explained that culture brings unity to a community and the nation at large and therefore urged youths to embrace culture as their root which can never be forgotten but be kept intact.
Odun Oba festival, a seven day programme, comes up every July, annually, involving the subjugation of all chiefs and indegene of Ondo kingdom at the palace of the Osemawe.
Odun oba festival has been described as a festival that brings about peace and togetherness.
Sagbo of ondo kingdom, chief bayo fagun made this known while speaking with eki fm’s reporter at the palace of the osemawe and paramount ruler of ondo kingdom, stating that the celebration brought people at home and abroad to unite and honor the king on the occassion.
On their parts, lekihan of odosida, chief akinkoye timothy as well as akunnara of ondo kingdom, olaniyan olarewaju lauded the monarch for his kind gesture, noting that his reign has brought peace and unity to the kingdom in the past years.
They therefore advised the youth as well as the elders in ondo kingdom to continue the good deeds and allow peace reign in the kingdom as well as nigeria at large.
Odun oba festival has been described as a typical example of a theatrical display where people showcase different genres of music and dance in ondo kingdom.
In this year’s festival, as usual, the festival exposes the use of drums in different ways with different messages, some for the king, some for the chiefs and some for other individuals and situations.
Identifying the different types of drums, otunba lisapon akinrolamo, said there are different types of drums in ondo kingdom both for the king and chiefs and have different roles they perform at each point in time.
The chief therefore charged all, especially people of ondo kingdom to embrace culture as it has it way of promoting unity in a society. Remember united they say, will stand, divided will fall.
National coordinator of concerned advocates for good governance, cagg, barrister olusegun bamgbose, esq., has given president muhammadu buhari seven days to secure the release of the 348 students held hostage by the bandits.
Bamgbose gave the autimatum in a statement while informing the traumatized parents of the abducted students, vowing that his group will do whatever it takes, for the children to regain their freedom soon.
There had been in recent report that over 348 students are currently held hostage by bandits with the latest abduction of 121 students in kaduna state.
Bangbose, in reaction to the report, said he would do everything humanly possible to ensure release of the students if the resent president muhammadu buhari government fails to do so in the next one week.
The lagos state judicial panel on restitution for victims of sars and other related abuses has admitted in evidence post mortem results and compact discs of all 99 corpses deposited at the lagos morgue between 20th and 27th october, 2020.
A pathologist consultant to lagos state government, professor john obafunwa, while testifying before the panel brought the results following an order made on june 5, 2021, for it to be produced.
The documents were contained in two nylon bags- blue and white while the chairman of the panel, justice doris okuwobi admitted it in evidence after the counsel to some endsars protesters, yinka olumide-fusika, san moved for the documents to be admitted without any objection from other parties.
Meanwhile, earlier at the june 5 sitting of the panel, the chairman, justice okuwobi had ordered professor obafunwa to bring before the panel the post mortem reports conducted on all 99 bodies which were said to have been picked from different parts of lagos between the 20th and 27th of oct, 2020.
The minister of youth and sports development, chief sunday dare has assured that nigerian wrestlers to tokyo 2020 games will rewrite the history of nigeria at the olympics.
Dare gave this assurance while on a visit to the wrestlers training camp in bayelsa state, also commending the bayelsa state government and the caretaker chairman of the nigerian wrestling federation for the great support given to the wrestling team.
Meanwhile, bayelsa state government has adopted two olympics bound athletes wrestler, blessing oboruduru and track and field runner and a member of the 4 ×100 meters relay team, timma godbless.
The adoption was announced by the state deputy governor, senator lawrence ewhrujakpo when the sports minister paid a working visit to the state where he visited the wrestling team and also inspected some facilities.
