ABIA/DEFECTION

NO FEWER THAN 450 YOUTHS AND MEMBERS OF THE SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY, SDP FROM UMUAHIA SOUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF ABIA STATE HAVE DEFECTED TO THE RULING PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY, PDP IN THE STATE.

IT WAS DISCLOSED IN A STATEMENT RELEASED TO NEWSMEN THAT THE FORMER SDP MEMBERS WERE RECEIVED INTO THE PARTY BY THE PDP SECRETARY IN ABIA, BARRISTER DAVID IRO DURING THE COMMISSIONING OF THE DEVELOPMENTAL PROJECTS INITIATED AND COMPLETED BY THE LAWMAKER REPRESENTING UMUAHIA SOUTH CONSTITUENCY AT ABIA STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY, HON. JERRY UZOSIKE HELD AT OLOKORO IN UMUAHIA SOUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF THE STATE.

ACCORDING TO THE STATEMENT, THE DEPUTY GOVERNOR OF THE STATE, UDE CHUKWU AND THE SPEAKER OF THE STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY, CHINEDUM ORJI PERFORMED THE COMMISSIONING EXERCISE AND ALSO WITNESSED THE FORMAL DEFECTION OF THE YOUTH MEMBERS OF THE SDP.

HOWEVER, ADDUCING THE REASON WHY THEY DUMPED THEIR FORMER PARTY FOR THE PDP, THE YOUTH CAMPAIGN LEADER OF THE SDP DURING 2019, PRESCIOUS UWAEZUOKE HINTED THAT THE PDP AND THE PRESENT ADMINISTRATION HAVE DEMONSTRATED UNCOMMON LEADERSHIP THROUGH THEIR NUMEROUS LAUDABLE INFRASTRUCTURAL PROJECTS AND PROGRAMMES AS WELL THE EXISTING POLITICAL STABILITY IN ABIA.

GROUP/SECURITY

A GROUP, CONCERNED MORIKI INDIGENES IN ZAMFARA STATE, LED BY ITS CHAIRMAN, ALHAJI SALISU MORIKI HAS WRITTEN AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI OVER THE WORSENING SECURITY SITUATION IN MORIKI AND NEIGHBOURING TOWNS.

ACCORDING TO THE LETTER, THE GROUP RAISED SERIOUS CONCERNS THAT OVER 100 HOUSES HAVE BEEN INVADED BY BANDITS IN MORIKI TOWN IN THE ZURMI LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF THE STATE, SAYING THE ROAD HAS BECOME A DEATH ZONE FOR COMMUTERS.

THE GROUP WHO LAMENTED THAT FOR OVER A MONTH NOW, THERE HAVE BEEN INCESSANT ATTACKS THAT CALL FOR A WELL COORDINATED SECURITY NETWORK NOTED THAT MORIKI TOWN HAS COME UNDER THE CONTROL AND INFLUENCE OF BANDITS RAGING HAVOC TO RESIDENTS VIA KIDNAP, KILLING AND ALL SORT OF TERRORISM WITH NO EFFORT FROM THE SECURITY OPERATIVES TO CURB THE CONSTANT MENACE.

IT THEREFORE URGED THE PRESIDENT TO DISCHARGE HIS CONSTITUTIONAL PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY OF PROTECTING THE LIVES AND PROPERTY OF THE PEOPLE, SOLICITING FOR THE DEPLOYMENT OF MORE TROOPS TO THE AXIS FOR PROPER PROVISION OF SECURITY TO THE PEOPLE OF MORIKI AND ITS ENVIRONMENT.

NYCN/BUHARI

IN ANOTHER RELATED DEVELOPMENT,

THE NORTHERN YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIA, NYCN HAS CALLED ON PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI TO HUMBLY RESIGN, SAYING HE HAS RUN OUT OF IDEAS TO SUBDUE THE TERRORISTS THAT HAVE TAKEN OVER THE NORTHERN PART OF THE COUNTRY.

THE YOUTHS IN A STATEMENT ISSUED BY ITS PRESIDENT, ISAH ABUBAKAR SAID IT IS EMBARRASSING THAT PRESIDENT BUHARI IS IDLY WATCHING THE TERRORIST ELEMENTS REIGNING SUPREME IN THE COUNTRY AND IMPOSING TAXES ON HIS SUPPOSED CITIZENS.

ACCORDING TO THEM, THE SECURITY CHALLENGES HAS ENGULFED NIGERIA, MOST ESPECIALLY NORTHERN REGION WHICH IS NOW THE EPICENTRE OF KIDNAPPING-FOR-RANSOM, BLOOD BATH AND LATELY ABATTOIR WHERE HUMANS ARE ROASTED ALIVE FOR THE CRIME OF DARING TRAVELLING ON ROADS THAT WERE CONSTRUCTED FROM THE TAXES THEY PAID TO THE GOVERNMENT.

THE NYCN THEREFORE CALLED ON THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY TO EXPEDITE ACTION AND INITIATE PROCESSES OF IMPEACHMENT AGAINST THE PRESIDENT, ASSURING THAT NIGERIANS WOULD CERTAINLY STAND WITH THEM AND EQUALLY HELP IN REDEEMING THEIR DAMAGED REPUTATION.

HOWEVER,

THE ALL PROGRESIVE CONGRESS, APC SAYS NIGERIANS SHOULD STOP PUTTING ALL BLAMES ON PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI OVER SOME OF THE PROBLEMS AFFECTING THE COUNTRY.

CHAIRMAN, JIGAWA STATE APC CHAPTER, HON. AMINU GUMEL STATED THIS AT A PRESS CONGRESS HELD AT MANPOWER DEVELOPMENT, DUTSE, SAYING NIGERIAINS SHOULD APPRECIATE GOD FOR HAVING A LEADER LIKE PRESIDENT BUHARI WHO WAS CONCERNED TO CURTAIL ALL THE PROBLEMS HE INHERITED.

GUMEL WHO STATED THAT THE PRESIDENT HAS DONE A LOT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF NIGERIA RECALLED THE SECURITY SITUATION OF THE COUNTRY DURING PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY, PDP ERA BEFORE THE COMING OF APC, ADDING THAT NIGERIANS HAVE FORGOTTEN THE HARDSHIP AND DAYS THEY USED TO SPEND ON LONG QUES JUST TO BUY PETROL.

HE THEREFORE ADVISED NIGERIANS TO PRAY FOR THEIR LEADERS TO SUCCEED RATHER THAN ABUSING OR PUTTING BLAMES ON THEM.

ZAMFARA/CORRUPTION

THE ZAMFARA STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY HAS ASSURED OF ITS READINESS AND DETERMINATION TO FIGHT CORRUPTION TO THE CORE, SAYING THE MENACE OF BRIBERY AND CORRUPTION HAS POSED A LOT OF CHALLENGES TO THE ECONOMIC AND DEVELOPMENTAL GROWTH OF THE STATE.

SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE, NASIRI  MAGARYA GAVE THE ASSURANCE WHILE RECEIVING AN AUDIENCE FROM THE EXECUTIVE MEMBERS OF TWO NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANISATIONS, MURYAR TALAKA AWARENESS INITIATIVE AND AREWA RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CENTRE, WHO ORGANISED A RALLY AS PART OF ACTIVITIES MARKING A GLOBAL WAR AGAINST CORRUPTION.

MAGARYA, WHO WAS REPRESENTED AT THE OCCASION BY THE DEPUTY HOUSE LEADER AND CHAIRMAN, HOUSE COMMITTEE ON JUSTICE AND JUDICIARY, HON NASIRU BUNGUDU SAID THE 6TH ASSEMBLY UNDER HIS LEADERSHIP HAS SUCCEEDED IN PASSING MORE THAN 40 BILLS INTO LAW.

SPEAKING, THE STATE COORDINATOR OF THE MURYAR TALAKA AWARENESS INITIATIVE, COMRADE HAFIZU BALARABE AND STATE DIRECTOR OF AREWA RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT PROJECT, MUSTAPHA MUSA SAID THE GLOBAL CRUSADE OF A TOTAL FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION IS A FIGHT FOR ALL, APPEALING THAT ALL HANDS MUST BE ON DECK TO BLOCK ALL TRACES THAT WOULD LEAD TO CORRUPTION.
