FAMILIES OF THE NIGERIA’S FIRST FEMALE COMBAT HELICOPTER PILOT, LATE TOLULOPE AROTILE HAVE CRIED OUT AGAIN, SEEKING QUICK DISPENSATION OF JUSTICE IN THE CASE INVESTIGATING THE INCIDENT THAT LED TO THE DEATH OF THEIR DAUGHTER.

AROTILE DIED IN AN ACCIDENT ON JULY 14, 2020, AT THE NIGERIA AIR FORCE BASE IN KADUNA AT THE AGE OF 24.

HER FATHER, AKINTUNDE AROTILE, TEN MONTHS LATER DURING AN INTERVIEW WITH NEWSMEN IN LOKOJA, KOGI STATE CAPITAL, SAID HE IS YET TO HEAL OVER THE SAD INCIDENT AND HE IS MORE DISTURBED BY THE PROLONGED CASE INVESTIGATING HER DEATH.

HE ADDED THAT HIS WIFE, MOTHER TO THE LATE TOLULOPE, IS MORE DISTURBED AS SHE DAILY LAMENTS OVER THE DELAYED CASE WITH JUSTICE YET TO BE SERVED 10 MONTHS AFTER, PLEADING THAT THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD DO SOMETHING FAST ABOUT THE MATTER.

ABIA/ABSU ABDUCTION

THE STUDENTS’ UNION GOVERNMENT, SUG OF ABIA STATE UNIVERSIT, UTURU HAS REACTED TO THE RELEASE OF THE ABDUCTED STUDENT OF THE INSTITUTION BY UNKNOWN GUNMEN.

THE STUDENTS WERE KIDNAPPED WHILE TRANSITING IN A BUS ON OKIGWE-UTURU ROAD.

TVICE-CHANCELLOR OF THE UNIVERSITY, PROFESSOR O. M OGBULU, CONFIRMED THAT TWO OF THE STUDENTS ESCAPED FROM THE HOODLUMS WHILE ONE WAS HELD BY THE ABDUCTORS.

SPEAKING TO NEWSMEN, THE STATE GOVERNOR, DR OKEZIE IKPEAZU, VIA HIS TWEETER HANDLE HOWEVER, ANNOUNCED THAT THE ONLY REMAINING STUDENT WAS RELEASED ON SATURDAY, MAY 8, 2021.

REACTING, THE UNIVERSITY’S SUG, IN A STATEMENT JOINTLY SIGNED BY ITS PRESIDENT, COMRADE NWAKANMA JOHN AND THE PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER KINGSLEY-OKORO THANKED THE STATE SECURITY AGENCIES AS WELL THE VICE-CHANCELLOR FOR THEIR PROMPT INTERVENTION AND FATHERLY CARE TOWARDS ABSU STUDENTS IN GENERAL.

THE DEPUTY SENATE PRESIDENT, SENATOR OVIE OMO-AGEGE HAS REECHOED THE DETERMINATION OF THE PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI-LED GOVERNMENT TO ENSURE NIGERIANS ONLY PAY FOR ELECTRICITY CONSUMED.

OMO-AGEGE DISCLOSED THIS AT THE GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY OF THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A POWER SUBSTATION AT HIS HOMETOWN IN OROGUN COMMUNITY, UGHELLI NORTH COUNCIL AREA OF DELTA STATE, BY THE NIGER DELTA POWER HOLDING COMPANY.

OSUN/KIDNAPPING

EIGHT SUSPECTED MEMBERS OF A HIGH-PROFILE, SERIAL KIDNAPPING SYNDICATE HAVE BEEN ARRESTED AT OMO IJESA VILLAGE IN OSUN STATE.

THE STATE POLICE COMMAND DISCLOSED THIS VIA A STATEMENT ISSUED BY ITS SPOKESMAN, SP OPALOLA YEMISI, STATING THAT THE ARREST FOLLOWED CREDIBLE INTELLIGENCE THE COMMAND RECEIVED.

YEMISI SAID THE SUSPECTS WERE INVOLVED IN THE KIDNAP OF A 65 YEAR OLD WOMAN AND OTHER CRIMINAL ACT, FORCING THE STATE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, CP OLAWALE OLOKODE, TO LEAD THE OPERATION.

PRIOR TO THE ARREST, THEPOLICE INVESTIGATIONS REVEALED THAT THE SUSPECTS RELOCATED TO OSUN STATE AFTER THE KIDNAP OF THE 65-YEAR-OLD WOMAN, AKIISHI CATHERINE IN BENUE STATE AS A DECEPTIVE TACTICS TO AVOID ARREST BY THE POLICE IN BENUE STATE.

ONDO/OAUSTECH

THE NON-TEACHING STAFF UNION OF OLUSEGUN AGAGU UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, OAUSTECH, OKITIPUPA, HAVE SUSPENDED THEIR FIVE WEEKS-OLD STRIKE ACTION OVER NON-PAYMENT OF SALARIES AND UNREMITTED PENSION DEDUCTIONS.

REPORT SAID THE SUSPENSION NOTICE WAS CONTAINED IN A STATEMENT JOINTLY SIGNED BY SSANU, NASU AND NAAT REPRESENTATIVES, TEMIDAYO TEMOLA, PETER AKINDEHINDE AND BOBOLA BAMIGBOLA RESPECTIVELY.

WHILE APPRECIATING ALL MEMBERS OF THE UNION FOR THEIR COOPERATION AND SOLIDARITY, THE EXECUTIVES SAID THE OFFER BY THE INSTITUTION’S MANAGEMENT WAS CONSIDERED BY CONGRESS AND THERE WAS NO NEED TO CONTINUE THE INDUSTRIAL ACTION.

THE UNIONS’ EXECUTIVES THEREFORE URGED THEIR MEMBERS TO RESUME WORK ON MONDAY, MAY 10 AS AGREED BY THE JOINT ASSOCIATION.

AKURE/OKADA CLASH

COMMERCIAL MOTORCYCLISTS KNOWN AS OKADA RIDERS ON SATURDAY, MAY 8 CLASHED WITH TRUCK DRIVERS AFTER AN OKADA RIDER RAMMED INTO A STATIONARY TRUCK ON FRIDAY, MAY 7, 2021 NIGHT IN AKRE, THE ONDO STATE CAPITAL.

REPORT SAID THE ACCIDENT LED TO THE DEATH OF BOTH THE OKADA RIDER AND HIS PASSENGER ON THE SPOT, AN INCIDENT THAT INFURIATED OTHER OKADA RIDERS WHO VANDALISED AND SET THE TRUCK ABLAZE.

THIS DID NOT GO WELL WITH THE TRUCK DRIVERS, WHO AS WELL PROTESTED AGAINST THE OKADA RIDERS’ ACTION.
