FG/ASUU

THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HAS REACTED TO THE EXTENSION OF THE ONGOING WARNING  STRIKE BY THE ACADEMIC STAFF UNION OF UNIVERSITIES, ASUU.

IT HAD BEEN REPORTED THAT ASUU ON MARCH 14, 2022 EXTENDED THE WARNING STRIKE  BY EIGHT WEEKS, SAYING IT TOOK THE DECISION BECAUSE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FAILED TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES IT RAISED IN A 2020 FGN/ASUU AGREEMENT.

HOWEVER REACTING TO ASUU CLAIMS IN AN INTERVIEW WITH NEWSMEN AT THE END OF THE COMMEMORATION OF THE 2022 COMMONWEALTH  CELEBRATION  IN ABUJA, THE MINISTER OF STATE  FOR  EDUCATION,  CHUKWUEMEKA NWAJIUBA MAINTAINED THAT THE GOVERNMENT  HAD MET ALL THE DEMANDS OF THE UNION, INCLUDING THE EARNED ALLOWANCES AND THE REVITALISATION FUND.

FG/RICE MICRONUTRIENTS

THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HAS INCLUDED RICE ON THE LIST OF FOODS THAT MUST BE FORTIFIED WITH MICRONUTRIENTS TO REDUCE THE RATE OF HIDDEN HUNGER IN THE COUNTRY.

DEPUTY DIRECTOR AND HEAD OF MICRONUTRITION DEFICIENCY UNIT, FEDERAL MINISTRY OF HEALTH, JOHN URUAKPA MADE THIS KNOWN DURING THE LAUNCH OF THE BILL AND MELINDA GATES FOUNDATION LARGE-SCALE FOOD FORTIFICATION STRATEGY IN LAGOS.

URUAKPA, WHILE EXPLAINING THAT FOOD FORTIFICATION IS THE PRACTICE OF ADDING VITAMINS AND MINERALS TO COMMONLY CONSUMED FOODS DURING PROCESSING TO INCREASE THEIR NUTRITIONAL VALUE SAID RICE FORTIFICATION WOULD IMPROVE THE NUTRITIONAL QUALITY DERIVED FROM THE STAPLE FOOD AND PROVIDE A PUBLIC HEALTH BENEFIT WITH MINIMAL HEALTH RISK.

THE DEPUTY DIRECTOR THEREFORE SAID THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WOULD CONTINUE TO CREATE THE ENABLING ENVIRONMENT THAT WOULD ENCOURAGE PARTNERS TO EXPAND THEIR FOOD FORTIFICATION EFFORTS IN NIGERIA.

AIRLINE/FUEL SCARCITY

NIGERIAN AIRLINE OPERATORS ARE DEMANDING OPERATIONAL LICENSES FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO BEGIN IMPORTATION OF FUEL, FOLLOWING THE RECENT FUEL SCARCITY ACROSS THE COUNTRY.

AIRPEACE CHAIRMAN, ALLEN ONYEMA MADE THE DEMAND AT A MEETING OF OIL MARKETERS AND AIRLINE OPERATORS AT THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY,  WARNING  THAT AIRLINES IN THE COUNTRY WOULD SHUT DOWN OPERATIONS OVER THE NON-AVAILABILITY OF AVIATION FUEL TO RUN THEIR OPERATIONS.

ONYEMA WHO SAID THEY HAVE ONLY THREE MORE DAYS, ALL AIRLINES IN NIGERIA WOULD SHUT DOWN STRESSED THAT THEY WERE NOT THREATENING THE GOVERNMENT OR CITIZENS BUT IT IS A FACT.

WHILE NOTING THAT THEY HAVE THE MANDATE OF ALL AIRLINES TO DEMAND THAT AIRLINES BEGIN IMPORTATION OF FUEL, THE AIRPEACE BOSS THEREFORE INSISTED THAT THE NNPC SHOULD GIVE AIRLINES LICENSES SO THEY COULD IMPORT FUEL THEMELVES.

UNIMED/2022 MATRICULATION

THE UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES, UNIMED HAS MATRICULATED 298 STUDENTS INTO THE FACULTIES OF BASIC  MEDICAL SCIENCES, DENTAL SCIENCES, MEDICAL SCIENCES,  RESPECTIVELY AMONG 7 OTHERS.

SOLAIDE OLAWOYE WHO WAS AT THE EVENT HELD AT THE UNIVERSITY MAIN AUDITORIUM, ODOSIDA CAMPUS COMPLETES THE STORY.

LAGOS/NURTW

DESPITE  SUSPENSION OF ALL ACTIVITIES BY THE NATIONAL BODY OF ROAD TRANSPORT WORKERS, NURTW LAGOS STATE CHAPTER AND GOVERNOR BABAJIDE SANWO-OLU-LED GOVERNMENT, THE UNION IS STILL SELLING TICKETS AT MOTOR PARKS AND GARAGES.

IT WAS GATHERED IN A CIRCULAR THAT THE SUSPENDED NURTW CHAIRMAN, MUSILIU AKINSANYA ALSO KNOWN AS MC OLUOMO TOLD UNION MEMBERS TO CONTINUE OPERATIONS AT VARIOUS MOTOR PARKS AND GARAGES IN THE STATE  AND  ADVISED  THEM TO REPORT ANY DISRUPTION OF ACTIVITIES BY POLICE TO THE LEADERSHIP FOR RECTIFICATION.

HOWEVER,  HOURS AFTER THE CIRCULAR WENT PUBLIC, OLUOMO ISSUED AN UPDATE DENYING THAT HE AUTHORIZED THE SALE OF NURTW TICKETS, CLARIFYING THAT THE ONES BEING SOLD BELONG TO THE LAGOS GOVERNMENT.

HURIWA/LAGOS RIDER

THE HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA, HURIWA HAS FAULTED THE LAGOS STATE POLICE COMMAND OVER ITS STANCE ON A 10-MONTH-OLD BABY CAUGHT WITH A DISPATCH RIDER, WILLIAMS TADULE IN THE SANGOTEDO AREA OF THE STATE.

A VIDEO  HAD GONE VIRAL LAST WEEK WITH A MOB DESCENDING ON TADULE FOR HIDING THE BABY IN QUESTION IN HIS DELIVERY BOX  BUT  THE  POLICE  ON MARCH 14 SAID THE DISPATCH RIDER GOT THE CONSENT OF THE BABY’S MOTHER, LOVINA BITURS TO TAKE HER BABY AWAY.

REACTING IN A STATEMENT ISSUED TO JOURNALISTS, HURIWA NATIONAL COORDINATOR, EMMANUEL ONWUBIKO ALLEGED THAT THE POLICE WERE TRYING TO COVER UP THE SUSPECTED ABDUCTION OF THE BABY TO GIVE AN UNTRUE IMPRESSION THAT LAGOS WAS SAFE.

DESCRIBING AS DEFIED LOGIC, THE NARRATION BY THE STATE POLICE SPOKESMAN, ADEKUNLE AJISEBUTU THAT TADULE AND BITRUS WERE NEIGHBOURS AND THAT HE ONLY TOOK OUT THE BABY WHO WAS CRYING FOR PACIFYING, ONWUBIKO INSISTED THAT THERE IS MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE IN THIS CASE.

ON FOREIGN SCENE

CHINA HAS REACTED TO CLAIMS OF SUPPORTING RUSSIA WITH DRONES AND OTHER MILITARY EQUIPMENT IN ITS INVASION OF UKRAINE.

WHITE  HOUSE  NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISER, UNITED STATES, JAKE SULLIVAN HAD DURING AN INTERVIEW WITH JOURNALISTS MENTIONED THAT RUSSIA ASKED CHINA FOR MILITARY SUPPORT AND ECONOMIC ASSISTANCE AS HE WARNED THAT THERE WOULD BE CONSEQUENCES IF CHINA ASSISTS RUSSIA .

HOWEVER REACTING TO THE CLAIM DURING A LIVE TELEVISION INTERVIEW WITH NEWSMEN, SPOKESPERSON FOR THE CHINESE EMBASSY IN US, LIU PENGYU SAID HE WAS NOT AWARE OF THE DEVELOPMENT.

PENGYU WHO EXPRESSED CONCERN FOR THE UKRAINE SITUATION DESCRIBED IT AS INDEED DISCONCERTING STRESSED THAT THE HIGH PRIORITY NOW IS TO PREVENT THE TENSE SITUATION IN UKRAINE FROM ESCALATING.
