Lagos state government will go ahead with the implementation of its recently assented value added tax, vat law despite a stay of execution by the appeal court in abuja.
A member of the lagos state house of assembly, setonji david stated this while featuring on a television programme.
It would be recalled that following rivers state which signed its vat bill into law last month, governor babajide sanwo-olu, on september 10 signed the state vat bill into law a day after it was passed by the lagos state house of assembly.
Meanwhile, on the same day, lagos was asked to be joined as a respondent alongside rivers state in the appeal filed by the federal inland revenue service challenging the judgment of the federal high court, port harcourt which ruled that rivers should commence vat collection.
However reacting, the lawmaker, who represents badagry ii constituency, said in lagos state, they had always clamoured for true federalism, adding that it is consumption tax from the people of lagos and it should be domiciled in lagos as well used for the people of the state.

A group, the global association of concerned imo youths, gaciy has cautioned the members of the independent petroleum marketers association, ipman in imo state to stop exploiting residents while claiming to be fighting the government.

The group which questioned the rationale behind the hoarding of fuel which had led to a hike in the price of premium motor spirit, petrol in the state in the last two weeks, therefore called on nigerian national petroleum corporation, nnpc, department of petroleum resources, dpr and other petroleum products regulatory agencies to immediately enforce sanity and sanction all those dealers perpetrating irregularities, hoarding and profiteering petrol products.
No fewer than 240 inmates have escaped the medium custodial centre in kabba, kogi state, following an attack by yet to be identified gunmen.
The nigerian correctional service, ncs, spokesman, francis enobore made the confirmation in a communique, stating that the attack took place on september 12.

One person has been killed by gunmen suspected to be bandits and many abducted after attacking a border community between taraba and benue states.
Confirming the incident to newsmen via a telephone conversation, the chairman of takum council, shiban tikari said the gunmen who stormed a border community in benue state forced residents to flee to koffai ahmadu in takum local government area for safety.
While describing the incident as an act of cowardice, tikari however stressed that efforts are in top gear to cater for the displaced and return them to their ancestral homes as security had been beefed up in the neighbouring communities to avert escalation.

Some gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have invaded apiye jim village in the atyap chiefdom of zango-kataf local government area of kaduna state, killing 12 persons.
The spokesperson of the southern kaduna peoples union, sokapu, luka binniyat who confirmed the attack to newsmen, explained that the latest attack happened on september 13 evening during a downpour, adding that the gunmen killed another man in atakshusho village making 13 deaths about 3 km from the initial scene of crime as they were retreating to make an escape.
According to him, the attackers came in large numbers and perpetrated the act in a jiffy and immediately escaped from the village while no one had been apprehended.
The latest attack was coming in less than 24 hours after the murder of a church pastor, rev. Silas ali, in the same area on september 11 as the cleric was said to have been hacked to death by his assailants.
