THE INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION, INEC HAS RECORDED FRESH 111,762 ONLINE VOTER REGISTRATION IN ADAMAWA STATE.

INEC RESIDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSIONER IN ADAMAWA STATE, KASSIM GAIDAM WHO DISCLOSED THIS IN YOLA, THE STATE CAPITAL SAID 83,395 OF THE NUMBER HAD BEEN COMPLETED IN THE COURSE OF THE ONGOING CONTINUOUS VOTER REGISTRATION, CVR EXERCISE.

GAIDAM ALSO ANNOUNCED THAT CONTINUOUS VOTER REGISTRATION WILL BE SUSPENDED AROUND JUNE THIS YEAR PREPARATORY TO PROCESSING THE DATA IN READINESS FOR THE 2023 GENERAL ELECTIONS.

HE THEREFORE INFORMED POLITICAL PARTIES THAT THE ELECTORAL ACT 2022 REQUIRES THEM TO MAINTAIN A REGISTER OF THEIR MEMBERS AND TO MAKE SUCH REGISTER AVAILABLE TO INEC NOT LATER THAN 30 DAYS BEFORE THE DATE FIXED FOR PARTY PRIMARIES, CONGRESSES.

NASS/GENDER BILLS

NIGERIAN WOMEN HAVE ONCE AGAIN ARRIVED AT THE PREMISES OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY FOR ANOTHER ROUND OF PROTEST.

IT HAD BEEN REPORTED THAT THE WOMEN HAD STARTED THEIR PROTEST ON MONDAY, MARCH 7 AGAINST THE REJECTION OF SPECIFIC SEATS FOR WOMEN IN THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY, DENIAL OF WOMEN’S INABILITY TO TAKE INDIGENESHIP OF THEIR HUSBAND’S STATE AFTER FIVE YEARS OF BEING TOGETHER AND 35 PERCENT AFFIRMATIVE ACTION FOR WOMEN.

THE WOMEN EXPRESSED THEIR DISAPPOINTMENT AT THE OUTCOME OF THE SENATE DECISION DESPITE HAVING ASSURANCES FROM THE LEADERSHIP OF THE HOUSE ON THE BILLS WHILE COMMENDING THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES FOR THEIR DECISION.

ACCORDING TO REPORT, THE FIRST LADY OF EKITI STATE, BISI FAYEMI, INCUMBENT CHAIRMAN OF NIGERIAN IN DIASPORA COMMISSION, ABIKE DABIRI-EREWA AND ACTIVIST, AISHA YESUFU WERE SOME OF THE FEMALE DIGNITARIES PRESENT AT THE PROTEST.

SHETTIMA MADE THE CONDEMNATION WHILE SPEAKING DURING A PUBLIC HEARING BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON HEALTH INSTITUTIONS ON 10 BILLS GEARED TOWARDS ESTABLISHING NEW TERTIARY HEALTH INSTITUTIONS IN VARIOUS PARTS OF THE COUNTRY.

THE FORMER BORNO GOVERNOR WHO SPOKE IN SUPPORT OF TWO OF THE BILLS TO ESTABLISH A FEDERAL COLLEGE OF NURSING, MIDWIFERY AND HEALTH SCIENCE IN CHIBOK AS WELL THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A FEDERAL MEDICAL CENTRE IN GWOZA COMPLAINED THAT THE TWO FEDERAL CONSTITUENCIES OF DAMBOA/GWOZA/CHIBOK AND ASKIRA-UBA/HAWUL DO NOT HAVE ANY FEDERAL PRESENCE.

ZAMFARA/FUEL SCARCITY

ZAMFARA STATE RESIDENTS HAVE REACTED TO THE CONSTANT FUEL SCARCITY IN THE STATE, BLAMING THE SECURITY OPERATIVES FOR BEING BEHIND THE FUEL SCARCITY DUE TO SHARP PRACTICES.

IN AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH NEWSMEN, A COMMERCIAL MOTORCYCLE RIDER WHO SPOKE ON CONDITION OF ANONYMITY SAID SECURITY OPERATIVES WERE AIDING AND ABETTING CORRUPTION IN THE NAME OF FUEL SCARCITY IN THE STATE, INSISTING THAT SECURITY OPERATIVES ARE THE PUBLIC ENEMIES IN DISGUISE.

ACCORDING TO HIM, THE BLACK MARKETERS HAD A DEAL WITH SOME OF THE SECURITY OPERATIVES TO ASSIST THEM IN GETTING FUEL AT THE FILLING STATIONS AT THE OFFICIAL RATE BUT SELL AT EXORBITANT PRICES, SAYING THAT MOST CUSTOMERS SLEEP AT THE FILLING STATIONS IN ORDER TO GET FUEL FOR THEIR LEGITIMATE ENDEAVOURS.

HE HOWEVER SAID MOST BUSINESSMEN AND WOMEN WHO DEPEND ON FUEL FOR THEIR LEGITIMATE ENDEAVOURS SAID THEY ALREADY SUSPENDED THEIR BUSINESSES PENDING WHEN THE PRICES OF PETROLEUM PRODUCTS STABILIZE.

IGP/IMPOUNDED VEHICLES

THE INSPECTOR-GENERAL OF POLICE, USMAN BABA HAS ORDERED THE IMMEDIATE EVACUATION OF ALL ACCIDENTAL, IMPOUNDED AND UNREGISTERED VEHICLE EXHIBITS FROM POLICE STATIONS ACROSS THE NATION.

THE KADUNA STATE POLICE COMMAND SAYS ITS OPERATIVES HAVE ARRESTED 200 SUSPECTED BANDITS AND 20 ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECTS BETWEEN JANUARY AND MARCH.

STATE POLICE PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER, ASP MOHAMMED JALIGE MADE THE ANNOUNCEMENT DURING A NEWS BRIEFING AT THE COMMAND’S HEADQUARTERS IN KADUNA, DISCLOSING THAT THE COMMAND RECOVERED 18 AK47 RIFLES, SEVEN MOTOR VEHICLES OF DIFFERENT BRAND, NINE MOTORCYCLES AMONG OTHERS.

HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA, HURIWA HAS CALLED ON EBONYI STATE GOVERNOR, DAVE UMAHI TO PACK UP AND LEAVE THE GOVERNMENT HOUSE IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE FEDERAL HIGH COURT RULING THAT DISQUALIFIED HIM FROM CONTINUING AS GOVERNOR.

HURIWA MADE THE CALL IN A STATEMENT RELEASED TO JOURNALISTS, REQUESTING GOVERNOR UMAHI TO STEP DOWN FROM THE POSITION OF GOVERNOR IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE JUDGEMENT OF THE COURT DELIVERED BY JUSTICE INYANG EKWO.

THE GROUP SAID IT WAS UNFORTUNATE THAT A MAN WHO HAS WORKED AS A GOVERNOR OF A STATE FOR SEVEN YEARS WOULD BE SEEN CASTING ASPERSIONS OPENLY AGAINST A JUDGE OF A COMPETENT COURT OF LAW WHICH IS ONE OF THE THREE ARMS OF GOVERNMENT.

IT FURTHER SAID INEC SHOULD IMMEDIATELY ISSUE THE CERTIFICATE OF RETURN TO THE NOMINEES SENT BY THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY, PDP AS DIRECTED BY THE COURT OF LAW PENDING THE DETERMINATION OF THE APPEAL INSTITUTED BY THE GOVERNOR CHALLENGING THE FEDERAL HIGH COURT RULING.

THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES HAS URGED THE NIGERIA POLICE FORCE AND THE NATIONAL SECURITY INTELLIGENCE TO FAST TRACK INVESTIGATIONS IN THE MURDER OF OLUWABAMISE AYANWOLA.

THE RESOLUTION FOLLOWED THE ADOPTION OF AN URGENT MOTION TITLED, RAMPANT CASES OF VIOLENCE, INCESSANT RAPE AND RITUAL KILLING OF OUR WOMEN FOLKS: A CALL FOR URGENT INTERVENTION OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE, BY THE MINORITY LEADER OF THE HOUSE, NDUDI ELUMELU AT THE PLENARY SESSION IN ABUJA.

ELUMELU NOTED THAT THE RISING CASES OF VIOLENCE, INCESSANT RAPE AND RITUAL KILLINGS OF FEMALE NIGERIANS BY CRIMINALLY-MINDED PERSONS IN VARIOUS PARTS OF THE COUNTRY WERE WORRISOME, ADDING THAT IT OCCURRED AMONG PEOPLE IN THE PRODUCTIVE AGE WHO WERE HAVING TO DEAL WITH THE NEGATIVE PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSEQUENCES OF THE VICE.

ACCORDING TO REPORT, THE HOUSE ASKED THE SECURITY AGENCIES TO ENSURE THAT THE ALLEGED KILLERS OF THE 22-YEAR-OLD LADY WERE BROUGHT TO JUSTICE.
