AMUDA WHO QUOTED GOVERNOR AKEREDOLU AS SAYING, PENDING THE TIME WHEN THE STATE WOULD ADDRESS THE SHORTAGE OF TEACHERS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS, ALL VICE PRINCIPALS, INCLUDING THE ASSISTANT HEAD TEACHERS IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN THE STATE MUST RETURN TO THE CLASSROOM COMMENDED THOSE WHO HAD ALREADY TAKEN UP THE CHALLENGE AT THE MEETING, URGING OTHERS TO COMPLY WITH THE DIRECTIVE WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT.

REACTING, SOME PRINCIPALS PRESENT IMPLORED THE MINISTRY TO TRANSLATE THE GOVERNOR’S DIRECTIVE TO A CIRCULAR IN ORDER TO AVOID UNNECESSARY CONFUSION.

THE FORMER SGF WHO NOTED THAT ON FEBRUARY 18, 2023, EXACTLY 13 MONTHS AND 23 DAYS FROM TODAY, THE 2023 PRESIDENTIAL AND NATIONAL ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS WOULD BE HELD SAID ALTHOUGH THE INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION, INEC WAS YET TO ISSUE THE GUIDELINES FOR POLITICAL ACTIVITIES, INDIVIDUALS WITH ASPIRATIONS TO CONTEST FOR OFFICES BUT EXPLAINED THAT CONSULTATION AND PRELIMINARY PREPARATIONS SHOULD HAVE COMMENCED BY NOW.

AS POLITICAL PARTIES IN NIGERIA PREPARE FOR PRIMARIES INCLUDING CONVENTIONS, YIAGA AFRICA HAS EXPRESSED WORRY AHEAD OF THE 2023 GENERAL ELECTIONS FOLLOWING SOME CRITICAL ISSUES IN THE ELECTORAL PROCESS YET TO BE ADDRESSED URGENTLY AND HOLISTICALLY.

SPEAKING WITH NEWSMEN, YIAGA AFRICA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, SAMSON ITODO HIGHLIGHTED SOME OF THE WORRIES THAT COULD IMPEDE THE ELECTORAL PROCESS BEFORE THE 2023 GENERAL ELECTIONS WHICH INCLUDE INSECURITY, POLITICAL PARTIES UPHOLDING TENETS OF DEMOCRACY IN THEIR PRIMARIES AND THE CONTROVERSIAL ELECTORAL ACT AMENDMENT BILL.

ITODO WHO SAID IF THERE IS NO PEACE, AN ELECTION COULD NOT HOLD SAID STATES HAD APPEARED TO HAVE FAILED IN PROTECTING THE LIVES AND PROPERTY OF NIGERIANS, ADDING THAT UNLESS SECURITY ARCHITECTURE IS ADDRESSED, NIGERIANS WOULD CONTINUE TO SUFFER  FROM THE HANDS OF THUGS AND RECKLESS POLITICIANS WHO WANT TO CEASE POWER AT ALL COST.

HE THEREFORE SAID IT IS IMPERATIVE FOR THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY TO ENSURE DUE DILIGENCE BEFORE TRANSMITTING THE ELECTORAL BILL 2021 BACK TO PRESIDENT MUAMMADU BUHARI FOR ASSENT, ADDING THAT IF THE BILL IS NOT FINALIZED WITHIN THE NEXT 30 DAYS IS GOING TO IMPACT THE PREPARATIONS FOR THE 2023 ELECTIONS.

MALI GOVERNMENT TOP OFFICIALS HAVE MET WITH PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI OVER POLITICAL CRISIS PLAGUING THE WEST AFRICAN COUNTRY.

AT THE MEETING HELD BEHIND CLOSED DOORS, PRESIDENT BUHARI COUNSELLED THE MALI DELEGATION TO WORK WITHIN THE TENETS OF THE ECONOMIC COMMUNITY OF WEST AFRICAN STATES, ECOWAS TO RESTORE CONSTITUTIONAL ORDER TO THE COUNTRY AT THE SHORTEST POSSIBLE TIME.

WHILE ASSURING MALI SPECIAL ENVOY AND THE TRANSITIONAL PRESIDENT, COL. ASSIMI GOITA THAT THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT WOULD INTERVENE IN THE COUNTRY’S POLITICAL SITUATION BUT WITHIN THE AMBITS OF ECOWAS FRAMEWORKS, THE NIGERIAN PRESIDENT HOWEVER SAID NOBODY COULD LOVE MALI MORE THAN MALIANS THEMSELVES.

IN HIS REMARKS, COL. GOITA SAID NIGERIA DESERVED COMMENDATIONS FOR SUPPORT TO HIS COUNTRY IN TERMS OF BILATERAL RELATIONS, INCLUDING HELP RENDERED TO THE ECOWAS MEDIATION TEAM LED BY FORMER PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN, INSISTING THAT MALI WANTS TO REVIEW LAWS GUIDING ELECTIONS AND PROFESSIONALIZE THE PROCESS SO AS TO RETURN TO DEMOCRACY.

THE APEX IGBO SOCIO-CULTURAL GROUP, OHANAEZE NDIGBO HAS NOTIFIED PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI THAT THE ISSUE OF STATE CREATION HAS ALREADY BEEN DECIDED BY IGBO LEADERS.

APPEARING ON A TELEVISION  INTERVIEW, PRESIDENT BUHARI WHO SPOKE ON PRESSING NATIONAL ISSUES HAD POINTED TO THE ISSUE OF STATE CREATION BY SOUTH EAST LEADERS, EXPLAINING THAT SOME LEADERS FROM THE REGION APPROACHED HIM AND DEMANDED THE CREATION OF ONE MORE STATE TO GIVE THE REGION AN EQUAL NUMBER OF STATES LIKE THE OTHER GEOGRAPHICAL ZONES.

THE PRESIDENT WHO REVEALED THAT HE GAVE THEM THE ASSIGNMENT TO GO AND LOOK AT THE MAP AND SEE HOW MANY OF THE EXISTING STATES WOULD CONTRIBUTE TO THE NEW ONE LAMENTED THAT SINCE THE MEETING, THE LEADERS NEVER RETURNED.

OHANAEZE NDIGBO WORLDWIDE HAS ACCUSED THE AREWA CONSULTATIVE FORUM, ACF AND THE NORTHERN ELDERS FORUM, NEF OF BEING THE REASON BEHIND PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI’S REFUSAL TO RELEASE LEADER OF THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE OF BIAFRA, IPOB, MAZI NNAMDI KANU.

OHANAEZE NDIGBO MADE THE ACCUSATION IN A STATEMENT SIGNED BY ITS SECRETARY-GENERAL, MAZI OKECHUKWU ISIGUZORO, SAYING IT HAD ONCE PREDICTED THAT THE PRESIDENT WOULD NOT RELEASE KANU IN HIS NEW YEAR MESSAGE TO THE IGBO PEOPLE DUE TO INFIGHTING EVIDENCE, MISGUIDED ASSERTIONS AND UTTERANCES OF CERTAIN SOUTHEASTERN LEADERS AND IPOB ITSELF.

WHILE REVEALING THAT IT HAD BEEN SOUNDING THE WARNING THAT THE APPROACH, ASSERTIONS AND INFIGHTING IN THE CAMP OF IPOB AND BETWEEN IGBO LEADERS WOULD DERAIL THE RELEASE OF THE PRO-BIAFRAN AGITATOR, OHANAEZE THEREFORE CLAIMED THAT THOSE SENT TO NEGOTIATE THE UNCONDITIONAL RELEASE OF THE IPOB LEADER CHANGED THE COURSE ALONG THE LINE AND SEIZED THE OPPORTUNITY TO CHASE THEIR PERSONAL GAINS AHEAD OF THE 2023 PRESIDENCY.
