PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI HAS CONDEMNED THE COUP ATTEMPT IN GUINEA-BISSAU, SAYING IT WAS AN ATTEMPT TO SUBVERT THE ESTABLISHED CONSTITUTIONAL ORDER IN THE COUNTRY.

THE SENATE HAS RECEIVED A REQUEST FROM PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI TO CONFIRM THE NOMINATION OF FOUR NOMINEES AS COMMISSIONERS FOR THE NIGERIAN ELECTRICITY REGULATORY COMMISSION, NERC.

REPORT SAYS THE PRESIDENT’S REQUEST WAS CONTAINED IN A LETTER DATED JANUARY 27, 2022 AND READ BY THE SENATE PRESIDENT, DR. AHMAD LAWAN AT THE START OF PLENARY.

IN THE LETTER, PRESIDENT BUHARI SAID THE REQUEST WAS MADE PURSUANT TO THE PROVISION OF SECTION 34 OF THE ELECTRICITY POWER SECTOR REFORM ACT.

MEANWHILE, THE NOMINEES LISTED FOR CONFIRMATION INCLUDE,  DR. YUSUF ALI FROM NORTH CENTRAL, ENGR. CHIDI IKE FROM SOUTH EAST, NATHAN SHATTI FROM NORTH EAST AND DAFE AKPENEYE FROM SOUTH SOUTH.

NIGERIA/UAE

THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT AND THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, UAE HAVE AGREED TO LIFT TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES.

CAPTAIN NUHU FURTHER NOTED THAT FOLLOWING THE REVIEW AND ACCEPTANCE OF THE SAFETY DECISION AS RELEASED BY UAE GENERAL CIVIL AVIATION AUTHORITY, GCAA AND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, THE HONOURABLE MINISTER OF AVIATION, SEN.  HADI SIRIKA APPROVED THE REINSTATEMENT OF EMIRATES AIRLINES WINTER SCHEDULE WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT.

THE ETHIOPIAN HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION, EHRC HAS ACCUSED THE ARMED FORCES OF HAVING A HAND IN THE KILLING OF 14 CIVILIANS IN THE OROMO COMMUNITY IN DECEMBER 2021.
