BURATAI/BENIN PRESIDENT

Nigeria’s ambassador to Benin Republic, Retired Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, has presented a letter of credence to the President of Benin, Patrice Talon.

Buratai presented the letter during a meeting with president talon over the planned extradition of wanted Yoruba Nation Activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Igboho.

In a statement issued to newsmen, the Beninese government hinted that the meeting with Buratai is to discuss ways to strengthen existing bilateral cooperation between the two countries

Also present at the meeting are the ambassadors of Germany, Ghana, Gabon and Norway, who also presented their letters of credence to the Benenese President.

WIKE/SECESSIONIST AGITATION

As part of growing calls to ensure national unity, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has advised Nigerians to shun violent secessionist agitations.

Governor Wike made the plea while meeting with the chief of army staff, Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya at the state government house in Port Harcourt.

While speaking, he lamented that the war against insecurity had suffered a setback due to the actions of some officers to become partisan rather than being professional in the discharge of their duties.

He, therefore, charged the federal government to equip the military with the latest technology so as to build the most modern and strongest army in Africa, thereby restoring the country’s position of strength, pride, and prosperity.

NCDC/COVID-19

Nigeria has recorded 404 new cases, its highest daily count of covid-19 infections in the last four months.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, disclosed this in its latest update on the outbreak raising the total tally to 171,728 cases.

According to the update, the nation’s hardest-hit metropolis, Lagos, recorded an alarming 356 new infections, Rivers followed with 18 infections, FCT – 7, Ekiti and Kaduna- 5 each, Gombe and Kano- 3, Edo and Ogun- 2, while Bayelsa, Plateau, Nasarawa each had 1 case.

However, a bit of respite was gained as no death was recorded from the disease in the past 24 hours with the death tally standing at 2,134, while a total of 164 thousand, 837 cases have so far been discharged across the country.
