President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with the family of the late former President, Shehu Shagari over the death of his wife, Hadiza Shagari who died of covid-19 complications at the age of 80.
In his condolence message issued by president Buhari’s spokesman, Femi Adesina in Abuja, the president described the deceased as a pillar of strength and support holding forth for the family while her husband busied himself with service to the nation.
He extended condolences to the government and the people of Sokoto state, urging the family to be consoled by the good deeds of Hadiza while he prayed that may the almighty Allah forgive the sins of the departed and reward her with paradise.
Niger State Commissioner for Information, Mohammed Idris has been released from bandits’ captivity.
Idris, speaking after regaining his freedom with newsmen narrated his ordeal and revealed why he was abducted, saying he was released around 9:30pm last night at a location in Suleja and taken to a hospital for medicals.
Idris who was kidnapped from his residence at Baban Tunga in the early hours August 9 disclosed that the assailants came from Zamfara and were not familiar with the Suleja terrain.
He further explained that his abductors said someone gave them money to carry out the act but the state government insists no ransom was paid to secure the commissioner from the kidnappers.
France has confirmed to halt the deportation of Afghan refugees as the Taliban continues to make sweeping gains in the war-torn country, amid the withdrawal of foreign troops.
French interior ministry spokeswoman, who spoke on condition of anonimity confirmed to newsmen that Paris has halted deportations in early July, owing to the deteriorating security situation in afghan.
With this development, report says France becomes the latest European country with Germany, Netherlands, Finland, Sweden and Norway, also pausing the expulsion of afghan refugees.
In the meantime, the United States has announced a special visa programme for 2,500 Afghans who worked for the US government.
