TAIWAN/PACT

TAIWAN HAS FILED AN APPLICATION TO JOIN A KEY ASIA-PACIFIC TRADE PACT JUST DAYS AFTER CHINA SUBMITTED AN APPLICATION.

TAIWAN’S CHIEF TRADE NEGOTIATOR, JOHN DENG MADE THIS KNOWN WHILE SPEAKING WITH NEWSMEN,SAYING IT WAS FAIRLY OBVIOUS THAT TAIWAN’S CASE TO BECOME A MEMBER WOULD BE AT RISK IF CHINA JOINED THE CPTPP FIRST DUE TO THE COMPLICATED RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THEM AS TAIWAN CONSIDERS ITSELF AN INDEPENDENT NATION BUT CHINA REGARDS IT AS A BREAKAWAY PROVINCE.
